Lunch at The Circle Cafe, Cannonmills

It was rather nice last week, to be invited out for lunch by ‘SnowWarrior’ an old acquaintance of mine, always keen for a catch up and not to mention a free lunch, I was more than delighted to accept! The suggested venue was The Circle Cafe in Cannonmills, it’s not somewhere I had even heard of before so happily trotted off down the road for my rendez-vous!

What an absolute gem of a place! On entering through a smallish glass frontage it’s a bit like Jekyll and Hyde, to your left is a small front desk and the walls are lined with classic solid wooden cabinets and shelving and to your right is red brickwork and minimalist paintings. The space is fairly narrow and deep and the restaurant ends with a flourish with a superb window seat. Modern, metallic tables combined with wooden, old school wooden seats and benches continue this ‘modern art gallery meets wine cellar’ fusion.

The Lunch Menu was spot on – one page of tasty looking dishes ranging from Homemade Soup through to Koftas, Risottos and Cauliflower Bhajis and The Specials menu was pretty tempting too! In fact we both ended up choosing from this one, myself having a Goats Cheese and Beetroot Quiche with Pesto, while SW had the King Prawn Linguine with Basil & Rocket.

The service was great, the food was delicious and importantly, well priced (dishes ranged between £3.95-£12.95). I actually find it hard to call this place a cafe but loved it’s no nonsense and effortlessly casual stylishness. Definitely one I’ll be recommending for either a business lunch or a good refreshment point along the Water of Leith!

I’m glad you like it. It’s one of our favourites – for coffee, lunch and tea, but most of all for Sunday brunch.

It’s great, so well done! Was very envious of the folk having nice long lazy lunches there, def one to remember

Circle Gallery is great for lunch or just coffee. Have been there many many times and have always had great food with matching service.
