Pizza and Pasta at La Piazza – a long time favourite

Seeing as I’ve been recommending it for so long it’s well overdue for me to pull my finger out and blog it!

From ‘My Top Restaurants’ page:

La Piazza – My mouth simply waters every time I think of La Piazza’s Tortelloni with Black Truffle, Norcina Sausage, Red Wine & Porcini Sauce, to die for! Crisp linen, old fashioned and pristine waiters, a fantastic venue for a business lunch!

I’ve always favoured La Piazza in Shandwick Place for it’s simple, hearty and eminently tasty Italian fare. I’ve eaten here many times and it’s especially great on the rare hot, sunny day we get if you can get an outdoor table (although returning to the office afterwards can be wrench).

Polpettine Di Spinaci and Mozzarella Garlic Bread (with sausage)

This particular visit was a cheeky lunch with AVM to use up a voucher that I’d bought and joining us were fellow voucher-purchasers ‘A’ & ‘B’.

I’m a creature of habit so for starters we had the garlic bread with mozzarella & Italian sausage and on ‘B’s recommendation, something new, the spinach & mozzarella balls with pesto. (he wasn’t wrong, they were REALLY good and have already been added to future orders!)

Fusilli Alla Casareccia and a Pizza Capricciosa

As my voucher didn’t cover my usual favourite (see above) without a supplement I decided I would be bold and try something new so plumped for the rather appropriate sounding Risotto Al Chianti – rice with bacon, mushrooms, red wine finished with parmesan shavings and AVM had a Fusilli dish with piccante sausage, spinach, chilli, garlic, white wine and olive oil.

A & B may also be creatures of habit as they seemed to know what they were having and two Pizza Capricciosas were quickly added to the order – tomato, mozzarella, ham, mushroom, peppers, peperoni sausage and olives (no peppers for B).

Risotto Al Chianti & another Pizza Capricciosa

As usual, all very tasty and great to catch up with fellow foodie friends although pigging out on the garlic bread and spinach balls didn’t really help me do justice with my risotto. And, although it was very nice, I’ll be going back to my usual Tortelloni or Carbonara next time.

Quite simply (and very greedily) can’t wait for a return visit!
