#Yardies take a wee road trip to Harviestoun Brewery

Harviestoun’s craft beers

This week saw some of the Edinburgh #Yardies take a wee road trip up North to visit Harviestoun Brewery, a  popular, local brewer of craft beers and a firm favourite in the office.

The Brewery itself is set in a stunning location, nestling at the foot of the Ochil Hills in the little town of Alva in to Clackmannanshire

The reason we made the trip wasn’t just to sample some of their fine wares, although of course we did do that, but it was actually to go and check out the brewing process in advance of us having our very own ‘Ale of Yard’ beer especially for the BIMA (British Interactive Media Association) #ThirstdayEdin event that is being hosted in our brand new offices at no. 10 Rutland Square (which is very kindly being sponsored by Harviestoun).

where the magic happens

We met with the Head Brewer, Stuart Cail who gave us a guided tour, explaining the process and how the different beers are created using blends of hops, yeast and all manner of other fascinating details and then we moved on to the important business of sampling our very own ‘Ale of Yard’, along with a number of others (purely for research purposes), under the expert guidance of brewer, Christa Sandquist. I’m not even a beer drinker but I have to say I think we’re on to a winner.

let’s go to the hop

Now we’re all very much looking forward to welcoming the digerati of Scotland along on the 6th December to share a drink or two while chewing the ‘digital cud’

Oh, I love Schiehallion and Bitter and Twisted..mmmm…

Have you tried any from the Loch Lomond brewery? I bought a load to keep for a tasting and have been told I’m not to drink for a few months – they are looking at me (read: taunting me) everytime I go in my kitchen cupboard!
