The Tasting Menu at Purslane Restaurant in Stockbridge

Purslane Restaurant in Stockbridge has become a firm favourite of ‘Bees’ & I. It’s small and beautifully formed and both Chef/Owner Paul and Gregor on front of house are fantastic hosts.

We’ve long been wanting to try the Tasting Menu (with wines of course) and last week we had something to celebrate so indulged ourselves and it didn’t disappoint so thought I’d share …..

Amuse Bouche - Mushroom

Amuse Bouche – Mushroom

Amuse Bouche – this was the best mushroom soup I have ever had – just thinking about it again now has given me a hankering to head to the hills & go foraging! This was served with a nice glass of Prosecco – a perfect way to start our celebration.

Pan Seared Scallops (L) and Red Mullet (R)

Pan Seared Scallops (L) and Red Mullet (R)

Scallops with curried cauliflower – it looked fab and Bees seemed pretty happy with hers. I have a shellfish allergy so was given Red Mullet with a Polenta mash and Piperade and it came in the cutest little Tagine I’ve ever seen. This was served with an amusingly named ‘Ratts’ South African Chenin Blanc

Ham Hough Roulade with Stornoway Black Pudding , Cromesqui & Poached Pear

Ham Hough with Black Pudding – this is my kind of dish, a big hammy hug. Was so happy with this dish I forgot which wine accompanied it!

Pan Fried Sea Bream with Provencal Vegetables,Saffron Potatoes & Tomato Salsa

Sea Bream pan fried & served with Saffron potatoes and Tomato Salsa – the fish was delicious although  to my horror I realised I was already starting to get quite full.  This was washed down with a Spanish Sauvignon Blanc.

Pavé of Beef with Roasted Parsnips. Fondant Potato and Red Wine Jus

Pavé of Beef with roasted parsnips, fondant potato and a red wine jus – hmmmm, the beef cheeks buried beneath were a real treasure! Served with a French Carignan.

Goats Cheese Ice Cream & Blackcurrant Sorbet

Goats Cheese Ice Cream & Blackcurrant Sorbet

Sorbet – Paul knows that I don’t have a particularly sweet tooth so gave me a goats cheese ice cream while ‘Bees’ had a Blackcurrant Sorbet

Blackberry Cheesecake – I think Chef ”snuck’ a little extra in here (which he’s won’t to do especially if he’s been trying out a new recipe) as I don’t recall this on the menu.

Cheeseboard & (background) Dark Chocolate Mousse with Hazelnut Parfait

Dessert – a Dark Chocolate Mousse with Hazelnut Parfait, again as Chef knows I don’t really ‘do’ dessert I got a cheeseboard. Served with a nice glass of Port!

& there you have it a whistlestop tour of our Tasting menu lunch – by the time we were done we were warm and snug, full and pleasantly sozzled – a job very well done!
