A Foodie’s dreams came true on a significant birthday

Last weekend I saw in a significant birthday (yes, I know I don’t look bad for 21! ). I don’t usually ‘do’ birthdays but this year was to be a bit different, and oh my, what a weekend it was!

So how does a foodie mark a special event…

Let’s get grilling! (picture credit Andy Catlin)

Food-wise it began with a birthday barbecue – the food came from the lovely Chef, Paul Gunning of Purslane Restaurant (cunningly plotted between him, Science and ‘bestie’ Bees) and included some of my favourites such as lamb rump, pork belly and pulled pork (along with sea bream, chicken, veggie kebabs, coleslaw, potato salad, a Greek salad and a whole variety of accompanying rubs & sauces.

I was too busy dancing on the decking to really eat much but the rest of the party posse were raving about it! (Don’t worry I caught up on leftovers on Sunday so didn’t miss out entirely).

The birthday cake? Well I don’t have a particularly sweet tooth, luckily for me Bees & Science knew this and surprised me with an amazing Cheese ‘cake’ from IJ Mellis, it was THE BEST! There was also a rather lovely chocolate/marzipan affair for those that prefer a bit of cake at a birthday party!

lucky me

My friends clearly know me well as there were some wonderful gifts with a decidedly foodie theme, even the gardening gifts were foodie related (operation garden is a big foodie project I’m currently undertaking). It was great to receive a copy of Carina Contini’s new book, which I’ll need to get her paw print on next time I’m in centotre and many many other lovely & generous presents, I was very spoilt!

And the piece de resistance…..?

my precious...

my precious…

What an amazing party with brilliant friends, fantastic food, cracking tunes and superb weather – for someone who doesn’t ‘do’ birthdays, I sure enjoyed this one – a Foodies dreams came true!

Yes, I did wear the deely boppers ALL night (& most of the next day too)

Ahhh so jealous of the kitchenaid, and it’s in my favourite colour! When I get my dream house with my dream kitchen this will be first on the list. Sounds like you had an awesome birthday – and a cake of cheese, what more could you ask for?!
