Piper Heidsieck Champagne Lunch & Sabrage at The Bonham Hotel

Last week I was lucky enough to have been invited to another lovely Piper Heidsieck event (they do know how to do them well!) seeing a live sabrage was a massive draw (as of course was the chance to quaff champagne & enjoy a lovely lunch at Edinburgh’s Bonham Hotel).

I never dreamed I’d get the chance to have a go myself – everyone that knows me – you may be as surprised as I was at how I got on – I think my face in the video says it all!

The Bonham are launching their new Bonham Bubbles lunch and afternoon tea menus (with unlimited champagne, at £50 a head and 2 & 1/2 hours – bit of a steal!) so myself and some fellow ‘foodies’ had a preview! I’ve been to their Boozy Snoozy lunches before which were also exceptional value so was delighted to go along and check this new offer out!

This was the menu and it was fantastic – it was really hard to choose just one dish from each course – this was what we had to select from:

First

Soup – Carrot & star anise soup, ricotta & coriander gnocchi

Goats Cheese – Goat cheese parfait, heritage tomatoes salad

Parfait – Chicken liver parfait, pickled cherries and gingerbread

Monkfish – Monkfish cheeks, brandade mousse, chorizo, gremolata

Seconds

Risotto – New season asparagus and Parmesan risotto

Sea Trout – Loch Etive sea trout, organic beetroot salad, dill & cucumber velouté

Lamb – Slow cooked lamb shoulder, roast garlic mash, tomato chutney, anchovy & olive jus

Chicken – Free range chicken breast, summer truffles, wild asparagus, girolles mushrooms

Sweets

Strawberry & Passion Fruit – Strawberry & passion fruit soup with lemon sorbet

Cranachan – Whiskey parfait, honey & whiskey syrup, raspberries, oat raspberry granola

Chocolate – Praline chocolate brownie, vanilla ice cream

Cheese – Duo of cheeses, chutney, grapes & biscuits

I really couldn’t decide between the Monkfish cheeks and the Goats Cheese starters, luckily my fellow diner to my right also had the same quandary so we got one of each & shared!

(They were both lovely but the goats cheese parfait with the tomato crisp and very clever basil bread (or green clouds as we decided they were) was a truly accomplished dish).

The Main was an easier choice as I’m a through & through red meat eater – again it was delicious!

Strangely for me I didn’t go for the Cheese option but tried the Cranachan – a lovely take on an old classic!

All of this was washed down with quite a few glasses of Piper’s Non Vintage Brut – I’m really starting to get quite a taste for it now!

A huge thank you to everyone from The Bonham & Piper Heidsieck, another fantastic event, you’re really spoiling us & I loved every minute of it!
