Anfora – Leith’s newest Wine Bar Opens this Week

Gutted I can’t make the opening night for this cracking looking place – the food sounds and looks bloody amazing (so I don’t recommend looking at this if you’re hungry)! Can’t wait to try it out though…opens on the 19th February!

Situated in the historic Vintners Rooms in Leith, Anfora is a new addition to Edinburgh’s wine bars.

The space has been completely refurbished with a bright and minimal interior, as new owners Zak Hanif and Aiste Plechaviciute weave their magic on transforming this unique location.

Nestled in the heart of Leith, Anfora is based in the Vaults on Giles Street. A location established by the religious orders, that dates as far back to the 12th Century – the restaurant itself is housed in a building that has stood on this site since the 16th Century, making it the oldest commercial building in Scotland.

As well as an exceptional selection of organic wines from small, independent suppliers (befitting for its location), Anfora will be serving an exciting new menu, devised by head chef Attila Horvath and food consultant Anna Hamilton, made using predominantly locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.

The menu will consist of smaller bar ‘bites’, and an a la carte menu including starters of scallops with chorizo jam and celeriac puree, goats cheese with beetroot and pear jelly, and mackerel citrus salad. Main plates of venison with rich parsnip puree, pan-fried guinea fowl breast and stuffed legs, and soft polenta with buttery mushrooms and tempura, will also be available.
