DRY – an alcohol-free pop-up bar launches in Stockbridge, 17th Jan

This is an interesting new venture and they’re looking for foodie collaborators – supper clubs, pop-ups – the more variety the better   DRY, Edinburgh’s first alcohol-free pop-up bar to launch on 17 January 2017 at 15 North West Circus Place, Stockbridge. DRY’s founder Jamie Walker is a recovering alcoholic who set up Adelphi whisky […]

Pokemon Food & Drink Stops in Edinburgh

I haven’t got into the whole Pokemon Go craze that’s sweeping the world just now but I do love the fact that Edinburgh bars and restaurants are jumping in on the action – here are a few where you can fuel both yourself and your new-found Poke habit. Feel free to let us know of […]

Champagne tasting evening at Le Di-Vin, Edinburgh’s West End on 2nd October

If I wasn’t already at another event on the 2nd I’d be pretty tempted by this myself! Oh well, next time……!  Le Di-Vin Wine Bar at Randolph Place part of La P’tite Folie restaurant in Edinburgh is holding a champagne tasting on Tuesday 2nd October at 6:45PM for 7pm. The champagne tasting will include the below […]

The Honours – a new Brasserie from Martin Wishart

The Verdict – when can I go back? I think The Honours is going to set a new standard for Brasserie style dining in Edinburgh, high quality food, exceptional service in a relaxed modern environment. The prices were very reasonable – I’ve often paid more for totally substandard experiences in other places. At no point were we rushed and nothing was too much trouble for the staff with their ready smiles and clear eagerness and pride in this venture! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and would definitely think about returning for the Prix Fixe or Pre Theatre offerings. With over 1400 bookings until the end of August already in the diary, I’d recommend getting on the blower as soon as you can!

A disappointing lunch at Elliot’s Bar & Restaurant, Apex Waterloo Place

Now to the lesson in cookery! You’re going to like this! As the payment was going through we were asked if everything had been ok, I started with the usual British polite untruth but indignancy allowed me to find my voice and say “yes, except for the slow service” to which we were treated to the reason for the delay! Apparently it takes a very long time to cook a fish cake to get the centre hot! By this time keeping a straight face was nigh on impossible, but the ridiculousness of it all, had at least broken my annoyance, especially when I realised what an entertaining blog this would be. (In case you were wondering, no tip was left!)

(Guest Blog) Afternoon Tea at The Balmoral Hotel

Of the many teas on offer in Edinburgh, this rates alongside the Sheraton Grand – winning on ambience, decor and cheesecake, although outdone by the Sheraton on generosity, ritual and quality of sandwiches and scones! I say, game on! We agreed the score had to be 7/10 across the board, and will be back .. .. once we’ve tested the rest of the competition! (that’s my girls! Ed)

Guest Blog – Bisque Bar & Brasserie

The steak looked nice enough, mushrooms and tomatoes were appealing additions, but the mountain of chips was not! Less is often more, this plate was so stuffed with chips that to retrieve any morsel, you ended up with a few casualties on the table. Worse, both steaks were overdone. Very bad steak etiquette! I would have been satisfied in a pub, but not at £17.95 for the privilege.

Afternoon Tea at The Sheraton Grand

After a very busy week I was looking for a very chilled Sunday afternoon and what could have been better than a nice swim followed by high tea. AVM took little persuading and to be honest I think she likes her new found fame! I love ‘The Sheraton’s main bar area, The Exchange, it takes […]

99 Hanover Street’s 99p Lunch

I’ve seen the flyers for 99 Hanover Street’s 99p lunch but never tried it so when ‘Texan Lassie’ suggested it this week I thought it’d be a great one to review. Whilst waiting for TL to arrive (she was delayed by the Pope mobile, or the photographing of…) I was more than happy to let […]
