Lunch at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (Queen Street)

All in all, the service was uber-polite, the food was robust, well presented and of hearty proportions but for me it was just lacking the ‘wow factor’ I’d been expecting. Would I go again? Yes, if I was with a real Whisky fan who hadn’t been before and if it wasn’t coming out of my pocket. There are other restaurants in the same price bracket nearby with more character and a personable feel that I would choose ahead.

Lunch at Pho Vietnam – not sure if I want to tell you all about this find!

We all absolutely loved it and are delighted to have such a find on our doorstep. Outstanding value for money and a real treat for both the senses and the stomach! I’ve already been recommending it to one and all and am lunching there again next week!

BYOB at Beirut Lebanese Restaurant, South Side, Edinburgh

Due to the timelapse (& perhaps the amount of fizz & wine consumed), I’ll keep it brief but Salt n’Sass, Salidatious, The Pineapple, Strawberry Blonde and I, greedy guts that we are, still all made it up to Marshall Street in the Southside to try Edinburgh’s first Lebanese restaurant.

Pasta & Primitivo at La Partenope (Cucina Napoletana, Dalry Road)

On to the mains, my Carbonara was excellent, one of the best I’ve had in a VERY long time, whilst SB’s Pasta Fresca was very nice, it was also very subtle and for a main course portion it could have done with a lift both in seasoning and perhaps texture. On asking for some salt the waiter was entertainingly ‘disgusted’ by our request with that Latin insouciance that I know so well, having dated an Italian Chef myself! (Once added, however it lifted the dish enormously regardless of what he thought!)

Supper at The Saint in Stockbridge

After Mr G’s first appearance on Eating Edinburgh back in the Autumn (Mange Tout a L’escargot Bleu) he was keen to catch up and get another ‘slice of fame’. Being late January we were both looking for something cheap & cheerful so decided to check on 5pm.co.uk to see if there were any good deals in the city centre. […]

Lunch at The Circle Cafe, Cannonmills

The space is fairly narrow and deep and the restaurant ends with a flourish with a superb window seat. Modern, metallic tables combined with wooden, old school wooden seats and benches continue this ‘modern art gallery meets wine cellar’ fusion.

Eating Edinburgh – where HAVE I been? (a wee update)

Hello all and a very big Happy New Year to you all! As you may have noticed Eating Edinburgh has been rather quiet over the past few weeks, nothing sinister just a rather hectic pre festive dining schedule and a rather good holiday overseas but I’m back now and normal service should resume shortly. I […]

La Tasca’s ‘Unlimited Tapas for £10’ deal! (their best yet!)

It’s fair to say we were pretty content, we feasted to bursting and had a couple of bottles of very serviceable red to wash everything down and all for £20 per head! Now the confession, the same deal landed in my inbox again this week so I went and did it all again with AVM, brilliant value for money and I’m delighted to say the staff & service are greatly improved from previous visits 12+ months ago.
