Now to the lesson in cookery! You’re going to like this! As the payment was going through we were asked if everything had been ok, I started with the usual British polite untruth but indignancy allowed me to find my voice and say “yes, except for the slow service” to which we were treated to the reason for the delay! Apparently it takes a very long time to cook a fish cake to get the centre hot! By this time keeping a straight face was nigh on impossible, but the ridiculousness of it all, had at least broken my annoyance, especially when I realised what an entertaining blog this would be. (In case you were wondering, no tip was left!)

Of the many teas on offer in Edinburgh, this rates alongside the Sheraton Grand – winning on ambience, decor and cheesecake, although outdone by the Sheraton on generosity, ritual and quality of sandwiches and scones! I say, game on! We agreed the score had to be 7/10 across the board, and will be back .. .. once we’ve tested the rest of the competition! (that’s my girls! Ed)

The steak looked nice enough, mushrooms and tomatoes were appealing additions, but the mountain of chips was not! Less is often more, this plate was so stuffed with chips that to retrieve any morsel, you ended up with a few casualties on the table. Worse, both steaks were overdone. Very bad steak etiquette! I would have been satisfied in a pub, but not at £17.95 for the privilege.

To summarise, Wow! It’s not every day you get to have an ‘intimate’ lunch cooked by 2 Michelin starred chefs, out in the beautiful sunshine in the countryside using ingredients you’ve picked. Was it worth the £100 price tag – hell yes!
