Lunch at Castle Terrace – Review

I was lucky to be invited along to a bloggers lunch at Castle Terrace Restaurant this week along with Danielle, Edinburgh Foody, Olivia, Oh! Taste and Emma Foodie Explorers. We were invited to see the changes from refurbishment earlier in the year, sample the menu and go behind the scenes. We were hosted by the Group’s (Kitchin, Castle […]

The Tasting Menu at Purslane Restaurant in Stockbridge

Purslane Restaurant in Stockbridge has become a firm favourite of ‘Bees’ & I. It’s small and beautifully formed and both Chef/Owner Paul and Gregor on front of house are fantastic hosts. We’ve long been wanting to try the Tasting Menu (with wines of course) and last week we had something to celebrate so indulged ourselves […]

Lunch at The Pommery (& Recipe for their fab Beetroot Coleslaw)

Last year The Pommery pop-up Champagne Bar in the stunning Signet Library became a regular indulgence of mine, neatly hidden amongst the bustle at the heart of the Festival on the Royal Mile (next to St Giles cathedral). So this year I didn’t need asking twice to attend last Friday’s launch party (lots of champagne […]

Stac Polly launches new Brasserie, Gin & Wine Bar in Edinburgh’s New Town

Established Edinburgh restaurant Stac Polly has undergone a major refurbishment on its Dublin Street ground floor, creating a new Scottish-style brasserie, gin and wine bar.  Another great new restaurant launch to look forward to this week but in the meantime, here’s a sneaky peek! The brasserie’s modern-Scottish lunch menu is divided into sections for meat, fish, […]

Pizza and Pasta at La Piazza – a long time favourite

Seeing as I’ve been recommending it for so long it’s well overdue for me to pull my finger out and blog it!

From ‘My Top Restaurants’ page:

La Piazza – My mouth simply waters every time I think of La Piazza’s Tortelloni with Black Truffle, Norcina Sausage, Red Wine & Porcini Sauce, to die for! Crisp linen, old fashioned and pristine waiters, a fantastic venue for a business lunch!

Where I’ve been pigging out recently (part 2)

And so to conclude my recent dining experiences, here is the second instalment in this brief pictorial summary.

It’s obscene I know!

Where I’ve been pigging out in recent weeks (Part 1) – yes, really!

I seem to have been eating out so much recently and caught up in the pre-Xmas chaos that I’ve had little time to write things up. So for ease I thought I’d share some pictures of my recent greedy exploits.

I’m ashamed to say that there are actually so many that I’m going to have to split it into 2 posts!

The Mulroy, in Edinburgh’s West End, this could be my new favourite Restaurant!

It was exquisite, every single last morsel. Clever, exciting food combinations and elegant presentation created one of my favourite dining experiences to date. The noises that we were emitting could have been construed to be highly indecent but we couldn’t stop and our smiles didn’t fade all afternoon. In fact our boss and his wife were planning their visit for the very next day.

I can’t wait to go back and try the a la carte menu along with a more generous helping of the old red stuff to wash it down. I can’t recommend you try this find heartily enough and at £13.50 for 2 courses on the lunch time menu it’s an absolute steal! Just don’t expect a highly effusive greeting, service or farewell!

Lunch at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (Queen Street)

All in all, the service was uber-polite, the food was robust, well presented and of hearty proportions but for me it was just lacking the ‘wow factor’ I’d been expecting. Would I go again? Yes, if I was with a real Whisky fan who hadn’t been before and if it wasn’t coming out of my pocket. There are other restaurants in the same price bracket nearby with more character and a personable feel that I would choose ahead.

Kyloe, Edinburgh’s new Gourmet Steak Restaurant at The (newly-refurbed) Rutland

To summarise, it was good, REALLY tasty meat and a really interesting pleasurable dining experience, a couple of tweaks would make it perfect but it’s still in soft launch mode, the official opening is tomorrow (the 28th). Handily situated just around the corner, we will definitely be going back, and taking clients, moving forwards! It’s a quality offering at a quality price point but if you’re on a budget there are cheaper set-menu options for lunch or dinner. Yes, they knew I was coming and that it would be blogged but we did find it hard to pick fault, apart from the chips and a bit of a delay in paying for our drinks, neither major issue,s I’ll be happy to recommend and return as a fully paying customer.
