Wine By Design – does design influence our perception of value?

By day I work as the Marketing Manager at Tayburn and last month we held Branding Unbottled. As the name may suggest it was focused around our food & drink clients and we were extremely fortunate to have Roz Cuschieri, CEO of Genius, speaking about their remarkable brand journey. Our MD, Simon Farrell also spoke and he provided […]

A romantic meal at the Stockbridge Restaurant

The Stockbridge Restaurant has long been on my ‘list’ so when I was asked to do a review on a romantic restaurant in Edinburgh in partnership with www.match.com it seemed like the perfect opportunity.   Nestling in a St Stephen Street basement,  the entrance has been cleverly designed to draw you in with plants and […]

Kyloe, Edinburgh’s new Gourmet Steak Restaurant at The (newly-refurbed) Rutland

To summarise, it was good, REALLY tasty meat and a really interesting pleasurable dining experience, a couple of tweaks would make it perfect but it’s still in soft launch mode, the official opening is tomorrow (the 28th). Handily situated just around the corner, we will definitely be going back, and taking clients, moving forwards! It’s a quality offering at a quality price point but if you’re on a budget there are cheaper set-menu options for lunch or dinner. Yes, they knew I was coming and that it would be blogged but we did find it hard to pick fault, apart from the chips and a bit of a delay in paying for our drinks, neither major issue,s I’ll be happy to recommend and return as a fully paying customer.

The Honours – a new Brasserie from Martin Wishart

The Verdict – when can I go back? I think The Honours is going to set a new standard for Brasserie style dining in Edinburgh, high quality food, exceptional service in a relaxed modern environment. The prices were very reasonable – I’ve often paid more for totally substandard experiences in other places. At no point were we rushed and nothing was too much trouble for the staff with their ready smiles and clear eagerness and pride in this venture! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and would definitely think about returning for the Prix Fixe or Pre Theatre offerings. With over 1400 bookings until the end of August already in the diary, I’d recommend getting on the blower as soon as you can!

Mark Greenaway at 12 Picardy Place – a pre Theatre cheeky

Strawberry Blonde, AVM and myself were all off to see Vincent & Flavia in their new show, Midnight Tango last week at The Playhouse so decided a return visit to Mark Greenaway was in order, I was last there for the launch party and have heard plenty of good reports since so it was well […]

a Royal Wedding & a return to Wedgwood

Verdict, the food was exceptional (again) and it is very good value for money, it’s just such a shame we weren’t made aware on booking that only the lunch menu was available as it did leave us feeling slightly disappointed. Had we known, we would probably have had lunch somewhere else and gone back one evening instead to get what we had really wanted. Now justifying a 3rd trip within such a short space of time is going to be very difficult. despite this disappointment, it’s still keeping it’s slot at no2 in my top restaurants (for the moment) and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the lunch menu to anyone as a great value introduction to the wonders of the Wedgwood kitchen.

Opening night at Los Argentinos (Edinburgh’s own Fawlty Towers)

It was such a massive disappointment and the most inauthentic ‘themed’ restaurant I’ve ever eaten in. I’m not sure whether to be more angry at the insult to my intelligence or to my pocket! Based on the menus and wine list I can’t believe for a minute that the owners have ever even been to Argentina.

Mange Tout a L’escargot Bleu

I had a light supper at L’escargot Bleu some 18 months ago and have been meaning to go back ever since so when an old friend, ‘Mr G’  got in touch it seemed perfectly fitting that we should catch up in our old stomping ground, Broughton Street. I just love this restaurant, it oozes Gallic […]

Supper at Santini’s

Last night, ‘Strawberry Blonde’ & I decided to dine at Santini’s in Conference Square to research my inaugural Eating Edinburgh blog post. I have to confess I have eaten there before, and not that long ago, but it is very close to my gym and rather handy. For those that haven’t come across Santini’s before, […]
