Michelin Chef Jeremy Wares Hosts Charity dinner for Parkinsons – 8th Nov

Hmmm,  I can’t wait for this –  a cocktails & oysters reception (I can look at the oysters even if I can’t eat them!) followed by a 4 course meal paired with wines, each cooked by a top chef – one for serious foodies! (& don’t worry for those who can’t make it, I’ll be […]

The Plumed Horse Tasting Menu (with wines of course :o)

To summarise, a lovely meal with great company, the surroundings were calming, comfortable and not detracting from the food, the staff were excellent, uber-polished but very open to a bit of banter from the more ‘raucous’ of the group! The food was good – well presented, well cooked and very tasty and apart from the one course that wasn’t to our taste, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. They were also very generous with the wine with each course. At £65 per head & £45pp for the complimenting wines it’s on a par with the other Edinburgh based Michelin starred restaurants. I would definitely go again but would go A la carte and stick with red meats and wine, the carnivore that I am!

The Honours – a new Brasserie from Martin Wishart

The Verdict – when can I go back? I think The Honours is going to set a new standard for Brasserie style dining in Edinburgh, high quality food, exceptional service in a relaxed modern environment. The prices were very reasonable – I’ve often paid more for totally substandard experiences in other places. At no point were we rushed and nothing was too much trouble for the staff with their ready smiles and clear eagerness and pride in this venture! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and would definitely think about returning for the Prix Fixe or Pre Theatre offerings. With over 1400 bookings until the end of August already in the diary, I’d recommend getting on the blower as soon as you can!

A Gourmet Lunch at number one at The Balmoral Hotel

A colleague emailed round number one’s Christmas lunch menu and from the minute I read it I knew I was going, and I knew a couple of other ladies who would need little persuading to join me! So AVM, Strawberry Blonde and I decided we’d do things properly and booked the Friday off work so […]

Love Cooking Festival (love James Martin more! :o)

I shall forever smile when I recall this evening it was utterly bonkers and one of the funniest shows I have ever seen including Fringe Festival ones! This was my first freebie since starting my blog a few weeks ago and I’d be fibbing if I said I didn’t feel somewhat smug and a little […]

A Foraging day with Edinburgh’s Balmoral Hotel

To summarise, Wow! It’s not every day you get to have an ‘intimate’ lunch cooked by 2 Michelin starred chefs, out in the beautiful sunshine in the countryside using ingredients you’ve picked. Was it worth the £100 price tag – hell yes!
